The four VARK learning styles
There are four recognised learning styles: Visual, Auditory (or Aural), Reading and Kinesthetic. These are sometimes referred to as ‘VARK’.
Visual
Visual learners tend to prefer watching demonstrations or ‘how-to’ videos that show other people performing a new task or explaining a topic
Auditory
Auditory or aural learners like to listen to new information, such as a podcast or audio book, perhaps while they relax or even perform other tasks
Reading
Some people like to read through information in order to learn new skills – they are likely to be quite detail-conscious, theory-based learners
Kinesthetic
Those who prefer to learn by doing an activity rather than wading through theory or detailed instructions are known as kinesthetic or activity-based learners
